Indoor Paintball – Viable Alternative or Disappointment?

Korbin Newlyn asked:

When paintball comes to mind, you typically think of bridges, woods, trees, rain, mud; typically everything that you get in an outdoor environment. Right?

The initial thing that comes to most peoples mind is not the inside area of a big building in the city or town. However, you will find that there are a lot of paintball locations that are situated right in the center of just these types of locations. – and you will also notice that they are highly popular, particularly in terms of stag and hen weekends.

Why Select An Urban Location For Paintball?

This begs the question; Why not? Once you get past the point that you are not outside in the open air, taking part in indoor paintball can actually be really fun. One of the great benefits of these types of settings is the owners and organizers have the capability to create darkened rooms and many unique rooms to explore – this is one aspect that you will not find outdoors.

By locating indoor paintball centers right within the center of cities and town also makes them a lot more attractive to businesses, which mostly are big customers – paintball is an excellent selection as a team bonding day for employees.
Some of The Benefits of Indoor Paintball

One of the distinguishable benefits of indoor paintball is if you want to avoid sliding around in the mud when it’s pouring buckets of rain. Lets not forget about the mosquitoes in the summer and the freezing cold temperatures in the winter for outdoor paintball. Aside from that there is the chance to feel the experience of a higher intensity surroundings. Many indoor fields have strobe lights strategically placed as well as smoke machines which are frequently used to create both distractions and cover for both you and your team mates – also for the enemy.

The essence of the environment also makes paintball highly unique from the more conventional outdoor types. Uniquely created corridors, bunkers, tunnels, cells, secret rooms all create a highly intense gaming environment. It is a much different experience compared to being outdoors and being able to look far into the distance in all directions. When you are cornered against some wall, in a tight room and you have to move into a corridor, you will really be able to get a strong feel for the tension boiling over.

There are numerous indoor paintball arenas that are open late as well, providing you and your colleagues the opportunity to blow off some of that stream you built up after work. This is no doubt one of the main reasons for the growth of indoor paintball destinations that are now available throughout the country.

It is a subject of contention as to whether or not indoor paintball will ever totally replace the outdoor game, and for the complete experience it would be advisable to have a try at both venues, yet if you enjoy your paintball played in a tight high paced environment, then remaining indoors may be the right option for you.

The Thrill Of Playing Scenario Paintball

Gregg Hall asked:

Scenario paintball is an incredibly fun variation of paintball where the game is based on missions that recreate real historical missions or fictional missions that are designed to accomplish specific goals. In a typical scenario paintball game each group has its own command base camp which is surrounded by protective bunkers. A team commander is assigned to plan on the best way to accomplish the assigned mission.

The majority of scenario paintball games are played by following a storyline which usually has two or more opposing armies. In most games a point system is used and the team with the highest points at the end of the game wins. The points are usually given for things like eliminating an opposing team or for the completion of certain missions. You better have longer than a couple of hours to play a scenario paintball game; they usually last for more than 24 hours!

If you are going to participate in this variation you should being your own communication devices in addition to your normal equipment. Having communication equipment will give you a distinct advantage over teams that don’t have it. Since the games last quite a long time you should also bring camping gear along with warm clothes even if it is warm during the day. Pack enough food and beverages to last you through at least 24 hours so that you don’t get weak from hunger. Check with the organizers of the game to find out exactly what you should bring and how long the duration is expected to be. You may even have to bring tents and sleeping bags.

Another fun part of scenario paintball is the opportunity to play a specific character such as a medic, pilot, demo expert, or even a general. In some cases you may even get the chance to be a double agent or a spy. Usually everyone is given a card before the game that tells you who you are to be in the game and also identifies what team you are with.

Guns called military simulation paintball guns are generally the type used in this type of game. As a matter of fact the majority of gear used in these games simulate actual military equipment such as bazookas. I have even seen a paintball tank!

You don’t have to be a high level player to be able to participate either, most of the time it is open to all levels of players as long as they have the proper equipment.
