Paintball – The Excursion Of A Lifetime

Riley Hendersen asked:

While the game or sport of paintball is familiar to most people, many have never played the game and don’t know what it really is, other than people running around shooting each other with globs of paint. But paintball is so much more than that, and is great fun as well.

The object of playing a game of paintball is to eliminate your opponents in a ‘field of battle’ by hitting them with a paintball. A paintball is made of a round capsule that’s filled with non-toxic and wash-out substances, more scientifically known as polyethylene glycol, or what is officially described in the American Heritage dictionary as, ‘any of a family of colorless liquids with high molecular weight that are soluble in water and in many organic solvents and are used in detergents and as emulsifiers and plasticizers.’ Let’s just call it paint for simplicity’s sake, shall we?

A game of paintball is played in a special location with plenty of landscape to provide a pretend battlefield for participants that includes trees, obstacles, bunkers and trenches, among many other landscape features. A game of paintball is generally played between teams, though participants can play individually if they want, and if the paintball facility allows for that. Paintball facilities are scattered throughout the United States and around the world, providing hours of fun for those wanting a little more excitement than other more traditional sports. Over ten million people play paintball in the United States alone, and proponents claim that it’s safe, fun and a great way for kids and adults to gain the benefits of exercise while enjoying the action and strategy of the sport. Believe it or not, there are rules to playing a game of paintball and breaking them is frowned upon. Sportsmanship is valued in this game, and sore losers generally don’t fare well.

The object of a game of paintball is to ’shoot’ all the members of the opposing team. Paintball fields are available with both indoor and outdoor settings and cost only about $10-$80 a day if equipment is rented. For those who choose to purchase their own paintball gear, including paintball ‘gun’, tanks, and protective headgear and clothing, prices range from about $100-$1,000 depending on what you want. However, depending on your skill level, a game of paintball can last minutes or hours, so you may opt for renting the equipment until you get better at the game. Paintball equipment can be purchased at most sporting goods stores, or online through a paintball supply outfit.

The game of paintball was first introduced to the American market in the mid 1970’s. The game was first called ‘Survival’ and the first article about the game appeared in a 1980 issue of Sports Illustrated. Since then, the popularity of the game has steadily increased until it’s reached the worldwide popularity it enjoys today. Whether you participate in the game or sport of paintball as a player or as an observer, one thing is certain. Paintball is a blast, and is here to stay!

The Important Aspect of Paintball Gear

paintballguns asked:

An important and necessary part of paintball is the gear.  Paintball gear is mandatory for play and is meant to offer protection for the players.  Safety is always a concern with paintball, so having the right gear is essential.

Paintball gear can be found at sporting stores and some paintball facilities also sell or rent gear.  In general a person is going to spend a minimum of $100 for the gear they need.  Cheap paintball gear can be gotten by buying second hand or renting if the player does not play too often.  The gear every player must have includes a mask, gun and paintballs.  There are a wide variety of choices in gear, though.  Form tactical paintball gear to gear designed to improve the game or just to look good.

When a person is serious about playing paintball they will likely buy their paintball gear.  It can be helpful in addition to buy a paintball gear bag.  They may also consider branching out form typical or beginner gear to things like dye paintball gear or sniper paintball gear.

Paintball gear is usually bought for protection.  In additional to a paintball mask a player may want such protective paintball gear as paintball gloves and a paintball vest.  These things can really add extra protection and make the game play more comfortable.

Paintball gear is something that every player must look into before playing.  The choices in gear can be overwhelming and can get expensive.  A player may choose to start out with the basics and build form there to save on cost.

What To Know About A Paintball Gun

Riley Hendersen asked:

Whether you want to play paintball yourself or your son or daughter wants to get in on one of the most popular action games these days, you might want to know a little bit about a paintball gun.

But first, the basics. Paintball is a sport in which teams of player try to eliminate their opponents by shooting, to keep it simple, paintballs, at their opponents.

That said, there are a few things you should know about the gun, the first of which it’s not really a ‘gun’ in the typical sense of the word, but a piece of equipment that’s designed to propel the paint balls toward their intended target.

When used with a high-pressure propulsion tank, It can shoot a paintball filled with paint dye around three hundred feet per second. Industry standards, coupled with the design of a gun, don’t allow for anything faster. It may serve to alleviate worries to know that most professional paintball facilities and game field owners lower that speed or velocity to about two hundred eighty feet a second, just to be on the safe side.

To insure safety while active play is not engaged, a paintball gun is now required to come with a ’sock’ or barrel blocking device that will catch any accidentally discharged paintballs, and most new manufacturers install a safety catch on their models.

There are different designs and models and each is determined by need. Players take different field positions, and each of these positions may require a different kind of paintball gun. For example, there are three major field positions; the front player, mid-range player and the rear player.

For those playing a front or advance position, many players prefer a paintball gun that is more accurate and fast. Weight is also a factor in choosing the right kind of device for this position, as is the speed of the air propulsion system. Many models allow for an air tank to be mounted on the gun, but for front field players, a tank worn on a harness, enabled with an air hose, allows for greater speed and mobility.

For players who choose to play the middle of the field, a high-pressure system is preferred for greater distance.

For those players choosing a rear field position, a stream of paint or dye, almost like an old-fashioned flame thrower-type gun is preferred.

Before purchasing a paintball gun, it might be wise to rent one at the paintball facility until you decide which position you’re most likely apt to play on a regular basis. Renting is a very good option for new players and most paintball facilities will rent a one for a nominal fee.

If you’re looking to buy, be prepared to spend anywhere from $100 to $300 for most typical models. A top of the line model can cost up to a thousand dollars, but for most players, the lower price range paintball gun is more than adequate for most playing needs.
