What Really Is A Paintball Marker?

Riley Hendersen asked:

One of the terms you may run into early on while getting involved in the adrenaline pumping sport of paintball is “paintball marker.” So what is a paintball marker? To put it really simply, it’s the paintball guns. Many players refer to them as “markers” because the paint balls the guns shoots “marks” the target. A paintball marker might also be called a paintball gun or just a paint gun. After the safety mask, which is always the most important piece of equipment, the paintball marker is the next most important since there can not be a game without it.

The first paintball game was played in 1981 in Henniker, New Hampshire. Nine players took part, and the sport of paintball was born. The earliest models of paintball markers were uniform (after all, this was just the beginning of the sport). Now there are literally hundreds of choices between various makes and models of paintball markers. Some are very cheap, some are extremely expensive. No one could have imagined the huge variety in choices.

One of the first decisions you’ll want to make when using paintball markers is to decide what type of action you want from your paintball marker. By action, this refers to the way that an individual paintball marker fires. There are three types of actions that cover most of the cheaper and basic lines of paintball markers: pump action, semi-automatic blow back, and hybrid blow back. Each type of action makes a paintball gun work very differently, so think about how quickly you want your marker to shoot and how much work you want to do to make it fire. Obviously the pump action is the slowest, while the other methods offer better rates of fire.
The other factor to think about with paintball markers is performance. Performance is one word that covers many several factors including good rate of fire, accuracy, range, durability, and reliability. Some cheap paintball guns will perform like clockwork one day, but then not at all the next. This is why early homework is important: to learn first hand the reputation one model of paint marker has compared to another.

Buying the right paintball marker can be difficult. Do your homework ahead of time, and don’t rely on price alone. There are higher priced paintball markers that are extremely unpopular with players because of obvious deficiencies. A $500 paintball marker is not always guaranteed to be bigger and better than a cheaper $200 one.

Appearance is also a factor. Just because a gun “looks cool” means that it is a good buy. Do your research on paintball markers and buy the one that works for you and you’ll be much happier than you would have been otherwise.

Paintball Gear

Niko Brain asked:

There are many cool gadgets other than markers that can make your paintball game fun. Not only fun, it can also improve your chances of winning the game by leaps and bounds. Gadgets like Paintball grenades, paintball land mines, and paintball harness are looked at in detail here.

Paintball Gadgets for War

When you are playing scenario based paintball or Woodsball, it is extremely essential that you have the right gear and gadgets to have the best time possible while doing the most damage to the opposing forces. Today the game of paintball is dominated by not just the best shooter, it is also the technologically advanced who will rule the day. Paintball accessories give you a serious advantage over your enemy. There are many cool gadgets and war accessories that can change the way you play the game of paintball.

Paintball Grenades

This one if one of the most popular paintball gadgets that has ever been devised. Based on the real life hand grenade, it can be really effective if you are trapped or bunkered down. Also if you are on the offensive you can clear bunkers and strong holds with the pull of the pin. Popular versions of the paintball grenade like the F-Bomb big boy can spray the opponent with as much as 20 ounces of paint. What’s even cooler is that the blast radius can be 20+ feet! There are also smaller and cheaper versions of paintball grenades, but I say, go big or go home.

Paintball Harness

You simply cannot do without the harness on the field. Technically defined, a harness can be worn around the waist or the body. It has small pouches or pockets that can be used to carry a wide range of accessories, such as…

-Grenades

-Ammo pods

-HPA, or CO2

-Extra Paintballs

-Smoke bombs

Paintball harnesses are usually meant for big scenario games, and tourney players. That doesn’t go to say your average weekend warrior can’t use one for regular woodsball. These harnesses are very durable, light and upgradeable. They also come in a variety of cool colors, such as camouflage, and digital Camo to suit everyone’s needs. I suggest every player get one, as it will come in handy in battle.

Paintball Land Mines

Your sapper will be the one who plants the paintballs around the area and keep watch. As the enemy encroaches, the mines under the dirt will spray the paint up to an area of 10 feet taking out anyone in the vicinity. Another strategy is to leave one part of your defensive line open, and place the land mines on the weak side, hopefully catching an unsuspecting enemy in the process. There are many popular versions of land mines like Trip Wire land mines, Tippmann Ordinance RLM-10X and Master Mines.

Smoke Grenade

Smoke grenades can be a great tool on the paintball field. Simply put once you pull the pin of the smoke grenade, it releases a non-toxic type of smoke that releases into the air and essentially gives you a smoke wall of cover.  Use smoke grenades on high profile areas where the battle is intense or has stalemated. Smoke grenades can be bought at almost any local paintball store, or at your local field. Smoke out!

Paintball Bunkers

The paintball bunkers are the best accessories that will support you during any paintball game. These are used in speedball and can be a great way for cover and concealment. Your bunker is your hiding place where you will crouch and shoot during most games.

So use these cool gadgets and have a great time playing any sort of paintball game that you like.

The Essential Paintball Gear For A Great Game

Riley Hendersen asked:

Paintball is an exciting sport that has a large legion of fans and devoted players. One thing that every paintball player needs to know, from the beginner to the semi-pro, is the essential paintball gear that every player needs to have before any game.

When talking about paintball gear, the first thing that should come to mind is eye protection. Eye protection is the most important piece of equipment you could possibly invest in. Safety is always the primary concern, and eye protection takes care of the one major worry involved with paintball. It doesn’t matter whether you are playing at a field or in your backyard be sure to have your face protection on.

The second most important piece of paintball gear is your paintball gun. Obviously without this, there is no game to play. The paintball gun is also commonly referred to as the “marker” because it “marks” other players. While it is very important to be familiar with your paintball gun, don’t be intimidated. These are made simply and are easy to figure out and maintain. Along with the paintball gun is the hopper. This is a plastic bottle that holds your paintballs and allows them to feed into the chamber. Basically, this is your ammo supply. Some are actually motorized to insure that another paintball will fall into place after one is shot. If you like to spray and pray, these are the ones for you. Some can hold up to 300 balls, others hold as few as 40. All depends on style and preference.

The air tank is also a critical part of paintball gear and can be attached to most models of paintball guns several different locations. On most guns it hangs horizontally off the back, and they are just screwed in. Some players prefer a vertical mount to keep the liquid (bad) CO2 on the bottom and out of the gun. Most rental places can provide the right equipment to keep the games going.

There is an array of other pieces of paintball gear you will want. One is called a remote. A remote is a long tube that allows you to carry your air tank on a back pack or belt. A light tube is attached to the gun. This is useful because it takes weight off the actual gun and makes it lighter, which makes it easier to lift, aim, and use. It is a cheap, but effective addition that usually runs only around $30-$40.

Another piece of paintball gear is the belt pack. A belt pack is usually worn around the belt and can hold extra supplies like extra air and paint. Experienced players know how useful this can be. Also, you will always want a protective mask. As a side note: if you have prescription glasses you need to wear underneath the helmet, find a “Scott mask.” These fit much better and will allow you to be much more comfortable and more effective during the game. As for clothing, anything dark is acceptable.

Paintball is a great game, but you need the appropriate paintball gear to make the most of any afternoon or weekend excursion.

Getting Into The Game: An Introduction To Paintball

Riley Hendersen asked:

Paintball is a highly active and addictive sport that many individuals are becoming more and more involved with. Unlike many other sports where being tall as an oak or strong as an ox gives you a huge advantage, in paintball the playing field is much more evenly spread. While the most common courses are outside, there are also inside paintball courses, as well. In a game of paintball, there are almost always two teams that are evenly divided. Each player gets a paint gun and then the two teams play-often the old childhood game of capture the flag is a perfect scenario for a game of paintball.

The game of paintball itself is simple. Your team needs to guard your flag while trying to capture your opponent’s flag. Instead of tagging each other, you shoot with the paintball guns. If you are hit with a paintball and it breaks, then you are eliminated. There will be referees to call you as at or still in. The paintball does have to splat. If it hits you and doesn’t break for whatever reason, you’re still in the game. The paintballs are approximately marble sized with a hard shell on the outside and soft paint in the middle (think of how M&Ms are advertised). The outside shell allows the paint to travel much longer distances, which allows for a much more enjoyable and challenging game. Most players will get hit a few times in a day. While there is a slight sting that might cause a minor red mark, the paint balls really do not hurt and are far, FAR safer and less painful than getting hit by a bb or pellet gun. Paintball gives the excitement of a combat game without any of the danger.

In paintball there are some mistakes that beginners commonly make, which is nothing to be ashamed of, but here are some tips to help out. The first rule, the golden rule, in fact, of paintball is this: NEVER take off your protective mask. The only danger from a paintball game is if you take off your goggles and get shot in the eye. Never remove your ****** protection unless you are off the field in a specifically designated area.

Beyond that obvious safety tip, here are several helpful tips that you should know before you go to a paintball game for the first time:

Wear darker clothes, don’t wear white. White is too bright, you will get killed.

Wear some type of comfortable footwear. Preferably boot or comfortable shoes, something that you don’t mind wearing in the woods.

Good sportsmanship: always be honest. If you get splat and the ref doesn’t see, raise your hand for all to see and walk off. This is a sport where players are very open to newbies, but also very competitive: and they don’t like cheaters.

Avoid tunnel vision. It is so easy to get focused on what’s straight ahead that many beginning players get shot from the side without even realizing they’re getting flanked.

Paintball is a great sport, and highly addictive. Learn the basics, and then go out and enjoy yourself. That’s the most important aspect of a paintball game!

The Increasing Popularity of Paintball Guns

dpxpaint asked:

Paintball guns, also known as paintball markers, are mostly used to mark an opposing player in a paintball game with a paint ball. Paintball guns were earlier used by farmers and forestry groups to mark cattle and trees. The first paintball guns were seen in 1981. These guns were invented by James C. Hal and were used initially by forest department workers for paintball games. In 1985, Robert G. Shepherd made a paintball guns specifically designed for the sport. These guns were designed to shoot the paint ball at a higher rate of speed. Compressed gas is used to power the paintball gun. Velocity that is acquired by the paintball when shot from a paintball gun is around 100m/s. For wide range of paintball guns and other products you can visit (http://www.dpxpaint.com/). Carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen or normal air is the compressed gases that are used in the paintball guns to shoot a paintball. Current paintball guns consist mainly of four main components. These parts are barrel, hoppers, tank and of course the body.

Cheap paintball guns are used in competitions on the field as compared to expensive guns. But the main difference between cheap paintball guns and expensive ones is that the latter are just made to last longer. The only way to get the detail difference between them is just by using them on the field. A cheap paintball gun is built using durable material which provides good quality. A nice way to check the quality of guns is just give it a good shake, if it rattles; they need to be left out.

Spyder paintball guns have a long silver barrel which allows fire balling at a high velocity. They are quite popular because of their consistent display and firing accuracy. Check out all of the Kingman Spyder paintball guns and products at DPX Paint.

Tippmann is the brand to choose if you are looking for value and durability. Tippmann paintball guns are easy to use and hold. They are designed especially for comfort and dependability. Hundreds of upgrades are available for the Tippmann paintball guns and you can find them all right here at DPX Paint.

Make sure, the better version you pick up, the better will be the game of Paintball. And for better version you will have to take a lea of faith with a company that have established a name in the paintball community like DPXpaint (http://www.dpxpaint.com/)

Paintball Markers Vs. Paintball Guns

michaelrussell asked:

Paintballing is a relatively new sport that has come into popularity since its creation almost 20 years ago. The core of the idea behind paintball was to recreate the thrill of hunting wild game in Africa without the expenses included in making such a trip. Inspired by Richard Connell’s The Most Dangerous Game and eager to recreate the adrenaline rush of the hunt, three friends–Hayes Noel, Bob Gurnsey, and Charles Gaines–eventually worked out the most important qualities that a hunter could possess, but what they lacked was the necessary tool to make such a game possible.

It wasn’t until a friend of theirs showed them a paintball gun manufactured by the Nelson Paint Company that they found that tool. The paintballs and guns produced by Nelson Paint Company were originally designed for agricultural purposes–tree marking, etc. However, this did not stop these men from developing a game designed along the lines of capture the flag based around them. The very first paintball game took place June 2, 1981, with a dozen players competing against one another. An article was published that same month in Sports Illustrated on that game. The first games were crude compared to today’s standards, with extremely limited ammunition per gun. Players would even resort to throwing paintballs at one another.

Interest in paintball climbed steadily, and Bob Gurnsey eventually founded National Survival Game and contracted with Nelson Paint Company to be the sole distributor of their guns and paintballs. This initial monopoly allowed Gurnsey to turn a profit in six months. Competitor manufacturers of paintballs quickly appeared in the early 1980s, spurring development in paintball technology. Nelson Paint Company would later split into two companies: Nelson Paint Company, which focused on traditional paint products, and Nelson Technologies, Inc. (better known as Nelson Paintballs), which still produces paintballs today.

Competitive tournaments have been going on nearly since the sport’s inception. The first major paintball tournament was held in 1983, with the Canadian-based team The Unknown Rebels from London, Ontario, winning. Originally played in the woods, tournaments shifted over to the speedball format in the late 1990s. Speedball is similar to the idea of indoor soccer, with an even, enclosed field with a set terrain that afforded neither team an unfair advantage over the other. Tournaments since then have largely been in this format. The world’s largest, the World Cup, takes place each October at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Kissimmee, Florida.

Paintballs themselves have evolved over time as well. When the game first began in the early 1980s, paintballs were oil-based. Turpentine parties were not common after a game to get the paint off. Today’s paintballs are a gelatin shell filled with vegetable oil and food coloring. A number of variations have been developed for paintballs, including glow in the dark, scented, and cold weather ones. Some teams in tournament play will put their paintballs in a freezer to cool them and make the paint more brittle to shatter easier on impact and reduce the odds of a ricochet.

Paintball Do you Want the Advantage?

Joel pearce asked:

Having the best gear helps having an advantage over your opponent when playing paintball. Little things like lighter vests, goggles, helmets, gloves and of course your gun. If you take your paintball seriously you’ll know what I’m on about. Having lighter gear means more movability, more energy and smarter thinking. But you must choose your gear carefully some paintball gear looks good but in actual fact could slow you down or won’t provide you with the stealth or accuracy you will need to win the game.

How can you tell which gear is right for you. Well it will all be determine by your level of game play if you are a beginner start of with the basic rented gear. Doing this gives you a better idea about the gear associated with paintball. Playing with rented paintball gear for the first time will provide you with information on which things are uncomfortable, to heavy or just won’t fit you right. This is a great way to find out about paintball gear and the way the game is played.

Experienced Players know that paintball guns are an important factor. Prices can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars. So let’s talk about paintball guns there are hundreds of different guns on the market but which ones give you that big advantage. Obviously having a lighter gun will increase your moveability but what about the length of the gun barrel? In my opinion the ideal length of your paintball gun should be around 8 to 14 inches having a barrel any longer really doesn’t provide any advantages. It does not give you more accuracy, makes movability a lot harder and of course the gun it self will be heavier. Take your time when finding a paintball gun ask other gamers which gun they prefer best for there style of game.

The right gear can mean the difference of winning and losing but also more importantly safety. Make sure you find good strong safety gear. Your safety gear should fit your body Comfortably having lose paintball gear can be dangerous especially goggles and your helmet. So make sure you find the right gear to protect yourself and give you the best possible advantage over your opponent, but please remember have fun!! Your, not going to win every game, it’s a team sport you can’t win it by yourself.

I wish you and your friends the best on your next paintball game experience and hope you enjoy the adrenaline rush playing paintball provides.

Bedlam Paintball Games

Kevin J Smith asked:

Paintball is known to be a game of strategy with no proper way to win it. It is played by hitting players of another team with paint balls or gelatin balls those are filled with paint. Paintballing has become popular in whole world due to the fun involved in it. Around 5 million paintball game lovers play this game every year.

There is a greater fun involved in paintball Scotland, one of the famous paintball games we have. There are certain basic skills one should consider before facing the opponent. Like the hits are only valid if a player hits the clothes, torso, gear or anything his opponent is wearing. One of the most important factors you should not let go is the selection of paintball gun. You will get numerous options when it comes to buy a paintballing gun. There are loads of guns in market with different and unimagined features. All you need is go along with your budget, research on the available options and find the best one for you. These paint ball game guns are also available on different internet shopping website. Best thing about these websites is you don’t have to visit different shops to find the suitable gun for you. This saves your time and energy.

The game of paintball has several variants. There are straight elimination games as well as flag capturing games played by paintball lovers. Because of it being a team game, paint ball demands that everyone playing in the team should have one particular mission. Some players play the offensive while other play the defensive part. Working together as a team makes it really easy to eliminate opponents very quickly. It is very important to have an open area to do paintballing. As there is no fixed number of players who could play the game, it becomes essential to have a large ground where it will be difficult to chase opponents. Therefore, large numbers of paintball theme parks are developed by some game lovers. They organize different types of paintball games depending upon number of people participating. You will get the details of such game organizers easily on internet.

The Paintball Game: Evolution of the Gun and Game

kevin asked:

The evolution of the game has been swift from its origins in the 70s to the modern game we know today. It all started with the paintball gun; the term “marker” is a much newer term introduced to make the sport more marketable to the masses. So, what is the history of this relatively new sport and how has it evolved over three decades?

The first paintball guns were used on cattle ranches in the 1970s to single out animals from the herd. James Hale, of Daisy manufacturing , invented a gun for this purpose.

This practice soon evolved into a game and the first ever recreational paintball game took place in June 1981 in New Hampshire, USA. A group of friends used Nel-Spot 007s to play a very basic form of the game over a massive area to capture the flag.

One of the earliest guns available was the Splat Master; it was made entirely of plastic. It could hold ten paintballs, was powered by small co2 cylinders and had a slow fire rate. The gun had to be tilted back to drop each paintball into the firing chamber and cocked by pushing a button on the handle.

The paintball game was first marketed by Charles Gaines, a writer, as National Survival Game- NSG. It started in a very primitive form with players working individually rather than in teams. As the game evolved over time, the rules became more sophisticated and teams became a matter of course. Different types of games sprung up, but the “capture the flag” principle was the most popular.

As the paintball game developed, so did the need for a more sophisticated gun. The pump action marker was introduced with its increased rate of fire.

Caleb Strong opened the first outdoor commercial paintball field in Rochester in 1982. Two years later he opened an indoor version in Buffalo. The development of the commercial industry allowed for more organised, tournament style games and interest in the sport accelerated. The games became more exciting as smaller fields made the action quicker.

The gun continued to evolve in line with the paintball game. As the need for speed increased, the introduction of the 12 ounce co2 tank with its constant air was a major breakthrough. This in turn led to the advent of the semi-automatic gun with its incredible fire rate. Then followed the electric hopper to cope with the fire power of the semi-automatics.

Private and commercial fields are everywhere today as the sport has attracted a huge following. Whilst most players will only ever compete at a recreational level, professional teams compete at a national and international level with prizes worth hundreds of thousands of  dollars. The National Professional Paintball League was founded in 1992 and is the major force in the professional tournament circuit.

Professional players today are using fully automatic computerized markers. The Angel was the first of its kind. It was equipped with a motherboard in the gun’s handle offering a selection of different modes of fire.

There is no reason to believe that the paintball game has completed its evolution. It has come a long way from the cattle ranches of thirty years ago, but it is fair to assume that the sport has not finished its journey just yet.

Paintball Guns

Jason Smith asked:

Paintball guns are the primary equipment in paintball game. This is also called paintball marker and they generally use compressed air or carbon dioxide to release paintballs through the barrel. Most of the paintball guns have 4 main parts that includes the body, gas system, hopper and barrel. All these come in a package, you may also buy separate. Paintball guns are usually known as paintball marker as people often think it as a deadly sport.

Description of the Paintball guns:

Most of the paintball guns have a body made of aluminum as this metal significantly lowers the weight of the marker. The body comprises of all the main parts essential for firing, like trigger frame, loaders, valve and bolt.

Trigger frames – are an integral feature of these paintball guns. One can achieve high firing rates depending on the force required to fire from the marker and also the space the trigger moves before the action takes place. Electronic trigger frames are expensive and have different advantages like sensing abilities. It affects the rate of firing and records a very high rate. There are also non-electric guns that use mechanical trigger frame and uses a number of levers and springs.

Valve and bolt – this combination assists to fire the gun or marker. The valve and the bolt control firing and direct airflow allowing the paintballs enter the chamber.

Hoppers or loaders:

These are responsible to hold paintballs before they are fired from the gun. These are several types – force feed, agitating, gravity speed and stick feed. The first three are quite popular and stick feeds are generally used for pump paintball guns. Gravity feed is cheaper and also simpler form of hopper. Agitating feeds use propeller that spins inside the container and agitate the paintballs. Stick feeds are positioned parallel to the barrel and in order to load the next paintball, the marker ahs to be tipped.

Propellers:

The tank consists of carbon dioxide or compressed gas that dismisses the paintballs through the barrel. Carbon dioxide is mostly used in cheap paintball guns. Whereas, compressed air is stored in tanks under high pressure, so it is suitable for expensive markers.

Barrels:

Barrels control the airflow and direct the paintballs out of it. These are generally in three types of configuration – one-piece, two-piece, and three- piece. Barrels are mostly 21 inches long but you can also get custom made barrels of 48 inches as well. These longer barrels are quieter than the shorter ones as they let extra gas pass out slowly. The interior diameter of the barrel is called a bore and it should match the paint otherwise it will give incorrect results.

Trigger mode:

There are different types of triggering modes available, some are pump action markers and some fully automatic. Pump paintball guns are like pump action shotguns that need to be manually re-cocked after every shot. This is a slower version among all the paintball guns and often players choose it for effective shots. It can fire in extremely steady rate if adapted properly. Semi-automatic trigger versions are also equally common for different purposes.
